Materials needed

  • Speaker or phone for low-volume Caribbean-style music
  • Board book or picture cards with ocean, boats, or island scenes
  • Large blue or teal play blanket (ocean)

How to play

  1. 1Say listen, then play the ocean waves clip once. Ask if it sounds like water or a bird.
  2. 2Play the tropical bird clip. Invite the child to point to a bird picture or say bird.
  3. 3Play the soft rain clip. Ask rain or wind, and wait for a point or word.
  4. 4Play the wind-in-palms clip. Sway together like tall trees, then name wind if the child is still interested.
  5. 5End with a quiet clap for listening ears and put the speaker away before the next station.

Look for

  • Turning toward the speaker when a clip starts
  • Pointing to a picture choice after a sound
  • Trying a simple word like wave, bird, rain, or wind
  • Waiting for the next clip without grabbing the phone

Safety

  • Keep volume moderate and the device with the adult at all times.
  • Do not place speakers against the child's ears.
  • Stop if the child covers their ears or becomes distressed by sound.
  • Stop if the child grabs and mouths the phone or speaker.
  • Stay within arm's reach during scooping, tossing, and any damp-cloth tide play.
  • Use only toddler-safe items too large to swallow; tape shut any filled bottles.
  • Keep scoop bins shallow and never leave standing water unattended.
  • Limit outdoor time in heat; seek shade, offer water per family rules, and watch for overheating.
  • Keep music volume comfortable and speakers away from ears.

Add the full pack to your child's calendar and share it with a caregiver.
